Experience
I have worked as a Professor at both the College and University levels here in Canada. I was a Teaching Assistant at two different universities for a combined total of 9 years. I have been a tutor for students with disabilities at York University as well spent some time as an Educational Assistant at the elementary school level. My favourite part of being a professor or tutor was connecting with my students and connecting their curriculum to the world around them. I am a mum and 'Andie" to 6 beautiful children ranging in age from 6 to 15 years. My oldest child lives with a mental health as well as learning disability. My oldest step-son has Autism and one of my twin step-daughters has been diagnosed with ADHD. My amazing partner and I blended our families almost four years ago now and have happily been going grey and/or bald ever since. When all wrapped up together, this all means that I have a great deal of experience with the many varied, equally valid, and important ways in which people learn. Currently I am working from home as a tutor, web content writer and editor, as well as an Academic Expert for an on line post-secondary level student support site. This website provides individual 'lecture' type support in response to a student's specific course related questions. I love going swimming when I can, taking the kids to the YMCA, watching witty and hilarious 80s referenced television shows on Netflix, and reading an inspiring book when I can. Camping has been an excellent experience for a family of eight as we can laugh loudly and have fun without invoking the wrath of those close by. Finally, I fear I have become an old cat lady (despite the herd of children still in my home) as I adore my furry babies and their belief in feline superiority. As well, I would be remiss if I didn't mention my two baby dogs, Phineas and Ferb. FYI Phineas is around 80 lbs and Ferb is approx. 112 lbs, and both tend to act more like Scooby-Doo than their namesakes. I am laid back and easy to get along with however I also deeply believe in the importance of education. Learning how you learn is the first and most important step any of us can take. I greatly enjoy helping others unwrap this mystery for themselves and learn to love learning!
